Serbia does not have to build South Stream before the agreement with the EU

Logistic.Ru — The European Union warned Serbia from the start of the construction of South Stream as long as the agreement conforms to the EU standards. This is stated in the annual report on the EU's expanding policy.

According to European Truth with the reference to Euobserver, the same view is contained in the strategy, which will mark the agenda of the negotiations on the accession of Serbia to the EU for the next 12 months. The document notes that economic competitiveness is one of the three conditions for the progress in the negotiations.

"We will focus on deregulation, price transparency and access of third parties to the main energy networks," the diplomatic source said. The report and the strategy will be published on 8 October.

It is worth recalling that on July 9, a contract for the construction of the main gas pipeline South Stream on the territory of Serbia in the amount of about 2.1 billion euro was signed. The pipeline with the capacity of 63 billion cubic meters should bypass Ukraine on the Black Sea bottom from Russia to Bulgaria. Then, natural gas will be distributed to the various countries of Europe both in transit for South Stream and its branches.
